Shanghai Lingang: The first pure hydrogen refuelling station officially put into use
Although the green way to create hydrogen as a fuel at scale remains elusive, there are development projects around the work that at least int the way the fuel can be developed as part of the energy mix.
EFEC keeps a keen eye on such developments, both as part of its EU work and part of its work linking Cambridge and Shanghai (Lingang) in the clean and green technology spheres.
Recently, the first pure hydrogen refuelling station in Lingang New Area of Shanghai Free Trade Zone was officially put into use.
As a key project of clean energy infrastructure in Lingang New Area this year, this hydrogen refuelling station covers an area of five acres and mainly provides hydrogen refuelling services for medium-capacity T2 line trains and some conventional hydrogen-powered buses.
Taking into account the hydrogen refuelling efficiency, the turning radius of the entrance is more than 30 metres, and two hydrogen refuelling machines are set up in the platform, which can inject hydrogen into one train at the same time, greatly improving the operation efficiency.
The hydrogen energy industry in Lingang New Area has the advantages of industrial supply chains, innovation and logistics and the plan is that the new area will complete the production of 1,500 hydrogen energy vehicles and build 14 hydrogen refuelling stations of various types, with an annual hydrogen supply 14,000+ tons.
According to the plan, by 2025, Shanghai will build about 70 hydrogen refuelling stations of various types, and the number of fuel cell vehicles will exceed 10,000.
