In this section, we bring a mix of EFEC project updates, perspectives from our close partners and associates and short synopsis of issues relating to our core programmes.
This week, we look at batteries and the low carbon future.
EFEC team members will be attending the Batterytech EXPO on 25th April at Silverstone, the famous location for Formula One racing.
Of course, it is a well-chosen location. The future of cars is electric and the essential driver is the battery.
But there is still a way to go to create the real, green motoring experience. Along with the more obvious questions about what sort of electricity charges the battery, what amount of such power will be needed and how to supply it, are the perhaps less immediate questions about rare-earth minerals needed for batteries, recycling components of electric cars and the costs of assembly and retail logistics.

The EXPO event focuses on these questions. The battery industry is on the cusp of a power revolution with big technology companies investing heavily in the next generation of battery development and energy storage.
The event will provide a unique opportunity to showcase the latest products, technologies and services covering the Battery Management Systems, EV Battery, Battery Storage, Battery Development/ Discovery, Commercial and Mobile Power Device sectors.
There is a massive economic incentive that propels the necessary innovation: the UK Government targets 80% of new cars and 70% of new vans sold in Great Britain set to be zero emission by 2030, increasing to 100% by 2035.
EFEC looks forward to the EXPO and to report back on the insights of experts about the next generation of greener batters and vehicles.
